Carol Halkias

Carol HalkiasAn Orthodox Christian School…what a joy! I first came to T.H.E.O.S. about eleven years ago as a Preschool Teacher’s Aide, working with special students who were having difficulty adjusting to the classroom. I became inspired, while working with the children, to write a few songs for them. That was a lot of fun! From there, I became established as the music “teacher” in the preschool. When the school started to grow, I accepted the part-time position in the afternoon as school secretary. But, after not too much time had passed, and the school grew even more, I was offered the full-time secretarial position. I needed to decide whether to leave the classroom and the music that I loved in order to fulfill another school need. I chose the secretarial position, which has now advanced to Administrative Assistant to our principal.

The joy of working in an Orthodox Christian setting comes from the freedom to practice my Orthodox faith with co-workers and students, parents and visitors. There is much joy in knowing that our students can be freely Orthodox, without fear of condemnation or ridicule. And joy fills all of our hearts when we hear the children spontaneously singing the hymns of the Divine Liturgy while working on an art project.
I love my work here at T.H.E.O.S. I feel part of something very big…something Pan-Orthodox, even ecumenical. I thank God for giving me this opportunity to serve Him and His children.
